James Catlin

James Catlin

James Burton Catlin died July 9, 2007, at his home in Chugiak.

A visitation was held July 19, 2007, at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St. A graveside service with military honors was held Friday at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
Mr. Catlin was born Aug. 2, 1922, in Page, N.D., to Annie and Bert Catlin. He served in World War II and the Korean War.

A retired Teamster, he worked as a long-haul trucker in the Lower 48, and after moving to Alaska in 1971, he worked for Sealand for many years.

Mr. Catlin loved to dance, especially polkas and waltzes. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He loved his family and friends, and he loved to visit. He greatly enjoyed his friendships with people from his war years and was active in the reunions of the 345th Bomb Group.

Survivors include his wife, Olive Ann Catlin of Chugiak; son and daughter-in-law, James Catlin III and Diana of Cedar City, Utah; daughter, Kristi Catlin of Anchorage; grandchildren, Camai Hauk and husband David, Jeniffer Catlin, Rochelle Catlin, Natalia Catlin, Crystal James, Emily James, Naomi James, Brian James and Benjamin Catlin; brother, Kit Catlin of Palm Desert, Calif.; sister, Agnes Frost of Bakersfield, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Clarice McDermott.
