Spotlight: Lynne Duncan

Lynne Duncan

Born: Long ago and far away but after the dinosaurs.

Occupation: I’m a housewife and mom with a geology degree.

How long have you lived in Chugiak-Eagle River? About 21 years.

How would your friends describe you in a sentence? “Nuts” comes to mind, preferably mixed, or as a person with more than one interest.

What is the strangest thing you have in the trunk of your car or the back of your pickup? The seasonal gear you should carry for current weather.

What fictional character would you most like to meet? I like light murder mysteries, the type that entertain and don’t spook the living daylights out of you, so Brother Cadfael or Asey Mayo.

What song could you sing into your hairbrush or in the shower? I usually start with the introduction to “Sheherazada” and move on to bits and pieces of other classical or musical theater selections.

What’s your favorite junk food? Peanut M&Ms.

What would you like to accomplish over the next five years? Realistically, be able to play music with six sharps or flats with ease, knit all the yarn in the house and quilt all the fabric. Flight of fancy, compose some music and write a science book for elementary school kids.

What does your favorite bumper sticker say? “When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.”

What chore do you most hate to do around the house? Cutting the dog’s toenails.

What do you enjoy most about Chugiak-Eagle River? The mountains we can see so easily from our homes. I grew up in Illinois surrounded by flat cornfields. The only change in elevation was in the corn as it grew.

What modern convenience do you wish existed when you were younger? The microwave oven.

What service would you like to see come to Chugiak-Eagle River? An art/craft supply store.

If you could buy one absolutely frivolous thing, what would it be? Some totally fancy yarn.

What’s your favorite movie moment? Before the show starts, when you still think the movie will be good from start to finish.

What piece of clothing do you wear most out of your wardrobe? Sweaters and overshirts, it’s still a bit cool in the shade.

What aspect of childhood do you miss most? The cardinal that would sit on the top of my parents’ ham radio antenna singing in the first light of the day.
